Pink Trash Travels

Off to MI

This weekend, Chris and I return to Saugatuck, MI. We haven't been back since we sold our house four years ago and moved to Europe. We're both excited to spend time with friends having cookouts, playing games, swimming and dancing at the Dunes. But part of me also remembers that this is where we spent our last few days with Dailey, our labrador border collie mix who died on July 7, 2005.

I recall Dailey running around the yard with a stick in her mouth - only to return inside to lay around for most of the day. At the time, she was internally bleeding but we had no idea. If anything, we take comfort in knowing for a least one or two bright moments, she forgot her pain and enjoyed the outdoors.

I'm sure I'll drive by the house. It's as though I need to say goodbye as I didn't realize what the house would come to symbolize when we drove away for the last time as residents on Dugout Road.
