Pink Trash Travels 2: The Saladin Citadel of Cairo
When we visited the Citadel, fortified by Salah al-Din between 1176 and 1183 in Cairo, Egypt, it was as though we were treated to a private showing. There were few visitors. Understandably, the country's troubles have almost shut down tourism. So for us, it was a blessing as we avoided all lines (a good thing considering it was over 100 degrees).
Speaking of temperature, one of my favorite pictures is the last of the bunch below. It was so hot, the sun scorched a chameleon on the steps leading into the Mosque of Muhammad Ali (built between 1828 and 1848). I suppose I'm drawn to the shot because i can relate.
