The Fate of a Fairy Tale

I give ABC credit for trying something new and inventive with Once Upon a Time. The show about fairy tale characters living in modern day without knowing who they are is very creative with subtle nuances to keep you engaged. The only problem is the show took a bit too long to get to the heart of the story. That, and I don't think America is smart enough to play along. All of which means the show may not make it to season two. We'll know tomorrow when ratings are published, but my guess is it will debut with mild numbers and fall from there.

UPDATE: In series-premiere news, ABC fantasy drama Once Upon a Time was amply sampled at 12.79 million viewers (#2) and a 3.9/10 among adults 18-49 (#3) at 8 p.m. Comparably, that built from year-ago time period occupant Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (Viewers: 9.02 million; A18-49: 2.4/ 6 on 10/24/10) by a hefty 3.77 million viewers and 62 percent in the demo. Most shows drop 10-20% their second week. But ABC should be happy with the initial results.
