Sad Little Geraniums

I'm not sure what's wrong with my outdoor plants - especially my geraniums on the second floor terrace. Before I left for Chicago two weeks ago, I plucked all the blooms off hoping that when I returned, they'd be flourishing once again. After all, they had started to look quite sad. Unfortunately, 14 days later, not a bloom in sight. So, this tells me something is terribly wrong. They should be exploding with color. Instead, these geraniums are unhappy little plants. But it's not like I'm going to replace them with new ones. Not only is it already August, but in a few months the olive trees they co-habitate with with will be coming indoors - only to be sold (or passed along) to someone late fall as we'll be moving at the end of the year.
