What a Day

It's warm, the sun is shining, and America has elected Barack Obama as its new President. I can remember back in 2005 when Obama was running for the US Senate. In our neighborhood, I'd see signs for this Obama and say to myself, "Nobody is going to elect a man named Obama" (as it sounded like Osama). Flash forward three years and now he's President.

I can only say how proud I am to be an American today. There truly seems to be change in the air - not only in the oval office but in American's attitude towards race. And while watching the news reports from around the world, I had a tear in my eye and warm feeling in my heart as I saw joy in faces that never believed tonight was possible.

And now, I hope that this altering of opinions carries over into other discriminations that we face. Because unfortunately, it appears that Prop 8 in California will pass. But if the change we see today can continue to move forward, I have to believe one day Chris and I will be provided the opportunity to share the same rights as others across the United States of America.
