Pink Trash Travels

Slim "Shadys"

Today we went hunting for appliances. Let me say this. When shopping for higher end stuff, such as Viking, it becomes more like buying a car. Not only because it costs as much, but because the salespeople can be just as shady.

Take Abt in Chicago for example. We walk in with a quote. The "floor manager," Mal, says he can beat it by $1,000. So he takes us back, sits us down, and starts to crunch numbers. In the end, he could only go lower than Grand Appliance by $20. In addition, he had to do some creative math to get us a "rebate" once the items were delivered in May. So, we tell him we need to think about it. We leave and call Grand Appliance as we wanted to keep our word to advise them of our decision.

In the end, we bought from Grand Appliance as our faith in Abt and Mal dropped everytime we repeated something he said. As I told Mal, "You knew you couldn't beat it when you pulled us into the backroom." Well, Mal, let me tell the world, "Dishonesty didn't pay for you today."
