PTT Reviews Thor

If you're an avid reader of PTT, you know I'm very particular. So if I say I love a movie, you know it must be good. And I LOVED Thor - as did the general public with a 92% rating currently on Rotten Tomatoes. Sure, it's not expected to win any Oscars (except for special effects perhaps). But Chris Hemsworth truly embodies the Norse God. Congratulations goes to Paramount, Marvel and Disney for finding a lead actor who could pull it off - and I don't just mean the acting. When he goes shirtless, it's the movie studio's gift to gay men across America. Besides that, I was obsessed with his golden locks and scruff.

The writers could have gone astray with tacky dialogue, but they kept it fairly grounded. And Natalie Portman was cute as Thor's love interest. You actually want them to see each other again when the film concludes. Finally, Sir Anthony Hopkins of course is regal in his own right so it's no surprise he fits the bill as the King of Asgard.

Currently, the superhero film (in the first of a series expected to culminate in an Avengers movie in 2012) is projected to rake in $65M opening weekend. Of course, this number is about $35M short of Iron Man or the web slinger (due in part to heavy competition from Fast Five), but still strong enough to open #1 and about $5M ahead of industry expectations.

So it seems the summer movie season begins with a thunderous BANG thanks to Thor.
