My Strengths
Now that I'm back in America, I can watch Oprah without a four month delay. She bugs me most of the time, but sometimes, she can pull through with some helpful information. Because as she notes of herself, "I'm a teacher."
Recently, she had Marcus Buckingham on discussing his books that deal with finding your strengths (Now Discover Your Strenghts and Go Put Your Strengths to Work). So, I ordered them from Amazon to learn more about what I'm good at and how I can apply those strengths to my life situations. Last night, I read most of book one and completed the on-line survey. From this, I found out my top strengths are Communicator, Activator and Strategist. Which, after talking to Chris, really does sum up what I'm good at accomplishing. In short, the three detail the fact that I like to convey ideas through creative means, I don't like to wait, and I'm always thinking about "What if?"
Now that I know my top three, and can determine how best to move forward with finding a job that allows me to focus on my strengths - not my weaknesses. Because as Buckingham notes, you're happy when you're doing something you do well. It's not about emphasizing those areas where you're weak, it's about focusing on those where you excel.
So now my hunt begins...
