Sad Dayz Ahead

Just when we think the economy has hit rock bottom, it seems to get worse. More companies are issuing pink slips everyday. With that being noted, how in the world do I expect to find a job? It's out of my hands apparently. Which makes me begin to wonder how I can take control of my own situation. Because if I sit and wait for an offer to come my way, I could be entering retirement before I'm permanently employed again.
